As a key driver of social, economic, political and cultural change, the digital revolution is steadily reshaping all aspects of everyday life. The Bucerius Lab of the ZEIT STIFTUNG BUCERIUS is an innovative “idea laboratory” that focuses on the digital revolution and examines how people are responding to the array of changes.

Relying on innovative formats, events, exhibitions and publications, the Lab looks to actively explore current discourse in this area and influence its future development through initiatives of its own design and the contributions of Lab fellows. The Bucerius Lab addresses social change through digitalization, creates a space for an exchange of ideas and, in particular, seeks to promote participation in media and news literacy.

At present, the overarching theme is the “editorial society”. Under this heading, the Lab is targeting society’s interaction with media, news and information and our creation of a public sphere; a key point here is the issue of news literacy.

The Bucerius Lab Symposium, the Bucerius Lab Lectures and the Lunch Sessions are additional innovative Lab formats. In terms of its central funding efforts, the Lab also supports the program “Mut zur Gegenrede” (Courage to Speak Out) as well as the youth festival TINCON Hamburg.

Past topics targeted by the Lab were fundamental digital rights, the changing nature of work as a result of AI and robotics and the future of cities and the countryside in the digital age.
